18 Million

Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a chronic heart disease in which arteriosclerosis leads to narrowing of the coronary arteries. It is the leading cause of death in the western industrialised countries.

Almost 18 million people die from it each year¹, an estimated 31% of all deaths worldwide.

In Germany, around 5.5 million people suffer from coronary heart disease.

463 Million

In 2019, an estimated every eleventh adult aged 20-79 years had diabetes. That is 463 million people worldwide. Over 90 percent of which have type 2 diabetes, a form of diabetes that is characterised by high blood sugar, insulin resistance, and relative lack of insulin. By 2045, an estimated 700 million will have diabetes.

In Germany, 15.3% of the adults are diagnosed with diabetes, that is more than 9.5 million affected patients.²

1.9 Billion

Worldwide, a good 1.9 billion adults over the age of 18 were overweight in 2016. Of these, 650 million are obese. A person has traditionally been considered obese if they are more than 20% over their ideal weight.

In Germany, 59% of men and 37% of women are overweight³.
